Salina Links

Note: These links worked when I tried them, but over time they come and go. Sometimes they don't work temporarily, sometimes permanently.  This is out of my control.  If you find one that doesn't work, drop me an e-mail  and I'll drop it from the list.  If you know of a link that should be included here, send it in and I'll happily add it. -- Phil

Old Salina Phone Books (1943-1980)   http://members.aol.com/rootsfinding/ksphone.html

I tested this by sending some information by e-mail, as given on the web site. I think someone is supposed to look up the phone numbers by hand in old books and send the results. After weeks of waiting, nothing has happened. Let me know if you have another experience.

Books on Salina and Saline County History

Voices from the Valley.  Judy Magnuson Lilly (author & publisher), 1994.  History of Saline County as seen through the lives of its pioneers.  The lives are fascinating but the history is scattered and must be pieced together.  (Available at the Smoky Hill Museum, Salina.)
City on the Move (The Story of Salina).   Ruby Phillips Bramwell (Survey Press, P.O. Box 572, Salina, KS, 1969).  A professionally done history by a professional writer (and wife of Salina banker).  No doubt hard to find these days.  Thanks to Joan (Stermer) Linam who got a copy from eBay and gave it to me.

From River Ferries to Interchanges.  Harry Hughes and Helen Craig Dingler (authors and publishers), 1988.  Lots of facts and figures, with plenty of photos too.  Drier reading than "Voices".  Out of print and I probably got the last copy from a used book store at the time in Salina.  Hunt around.

Salina, 1858-2008The Salina History Book Committee.  All photos with captions from Salina's earliest years through 2008.

History of Camp PhillipsRoyal Oakes, published by Royal Oakes (20 S. 750 East, Bountiful, UT 84010), 1986.  (Sold in the Smoky Hill Museum, Salina.)
